THE DAY WE SOLD OUR PRIVACY
fouronzas:
The success behind social networks lies on a fundamental principle inherent to our species... Human beings tend to gang together, to live in society... That gives us security and wellness... but in order to belong to a group, you have to give something and, in the case of social networks, that something is our privacy.
Social networks aren't meant to keep you in touch with your family and friends... for that you have phones and Whatsapp... social networks expect you show yourself to the world, be it physically or via your thoughts and opinions, in order to get as many followers as possible. With that target in mind, you have to attract people's attention by being interesting, attractive, intelligent, smart, controversial... However, you aren't selling yourself to the people who follow you, but to the companies who developed the platforms, which are taking profit from all this. They get rich thanks to your lost privacy.
Imagine you have millions on the Monopoly. As soon as you leave the game, that money is worth nothing. The same happens on social networks and the amount of followers. And by the way, you lost your privacy...
